Questions
Which watches does it work on?
During the beta, the Forerunner 970 and 965. Both have a barometric altimeter, which the field needs to measure slope. Other Garmin watches with a barometer may be added after the beta.
How does it know I have the stroller with me?
From the name of the activity you start. If the name contains the word "Stroller", in any capitals, the field treats the run as a stroller run. That's why the setup guide has you copy your Run activity and name the copy Stroller Run.
What does it show when I run without the stroller?
On any activity without "Stroller" in its name, the field shows grade-adjusted pace, labelled PP GAP: your pace corrected for hills only.
If you share anonymous data, please add the field to your everyday Run activity too. Your solo runs give the formula a baseline to compare your stroller runs against.
Why is SAP faster than my pace on flat ground?
Because pushing a stroller costs effort even on the flat, about 7 % by the lab studies. At 9:30 per mile with a stroller, you're working about as hard as you would at 8:53 without one. How it works has the details.
Does it change my Garmin stats?
No. Garmin's own pace, distance and training numbers are untouched. After you sync, Garmin Connect shows two extra charts on the activity, Parent Pace SAP and Parent Pace GAP, plus their averages.
Garmin's VO2 max estimate may drift a little low after stroller runs, because you run slower at the same heart rate. On the Forerunner 970, Garmin only offers a switch to stop recording VO2 max on trail and ultra runs, so a copied Run activity keeps recording it.
I push a double stroller. Does that work?
Yes. Enter the second child's weight in the Second child weight setting. The settings apply to every stroller run, so set it back to 0 on days you're out with one child.
Can I use it when I walk with the stroller?
Yes, it keeps working at walking speed, but the hill correction comes from a study of running, so on climbs it won't be exact for walking. A walking mode is planned. If you'd use it, email chris@parentpace.app so we know how many people want it.
Can I use kilometres and kilograms?
Pace follows your watch: if the watch shows minutes per kilometre, so does the field. Weights are entered in pounds for now. One kilogram is 2.2 pounds.
What data do you collect?
The watch field sends nothing unless you turn on anonymous sharing in its settings. This website counts visits without cookies. The privacy page lists exactly what a shared summary contains and what the visit counter records.
Something looks wrong. Who do I tell?
Email chris@parentpace.app. A screenshot of the watch and the date of the run help a lot.
